A New Era of Christmas Cards

As I go through my mail and open more and more envelopes filled with Christmas greetings from friends and family, I’m noticing a trend. No longer do people send out holiday cheer in the form of a cheesy winter drawing of snowmen or reindeer and a sappy poem printed inside. No sir! The latest trend seems to be personalized photograph holiday cards.

I’m liking this trend. It’s a great way for loved ones to showcase events over the last year without making me read a 4-page letter filled with boring crap I don’t care about. It’s like the Reader’s Digest version of holiday newsletters–short, sweet, and perfect for busy people with the attention span of a gnat. I’m digging it!

One card that we received had pics of a friend’s family, all in their ski gear, posing on a snowy mountain. Another friend’s card had three pictures–one of he and his wife camping, another of the two of them on their wedding day and a third of them on their honeymoon in Jamaica. My old college roommate’s card had a photo of her, her 3 boys and husband vacationing on a beach in Mexico. All of these pictures are much more interesting, and endearing, than anything they could have written in a letter. I like getting a little peak into everyone’s lives.

A friend of mine, Meredith, has a business that specializes in these personalized greeting cards. Her work is fantastic! In fact, she designed Ryan’s birthday invitations for me back in November and I was overwhelmed with compliments on how cute they were. Anyhow, she has been mad-busy for the past month designing and shipping cards all over the country. It’s pretty inspiring to see a stay-at-home-mom who has turned her creativity and MBA into a business that she loves and allows her to run her own company while chasing after a one-year old. So if you’re in the market for some personalized cheer, check out Meredith’s site here .
