The Drugstore Caballero

Last Sunday we went to a bbq at Matt’s friend Chad’s house. He and his wife have two children who are 2 and 3 years old (13 months apart–yikes!). Ryan had a blast playing with the kids and going nuts crawling around. It was great to see him interact with other kids.

By 8 pm all three kids went to bed and that’s when the fun REALLY started. You see, Chad has this thing that he does whenever he gets a good buzz going–he busts out his guitar and gives us an impromptu performance of made-up songs. These tunes are always incredibly filthy and hilarious. Probably one of his most memorable songs from the past was “Chicken Skin”. It referenced a certain part of his male anatomy and I’m sure you can use your imagination without needing my elaboration. When Matt and I went to Hawaii for our honeymoon we found that the locals would refer to goosebumps as “chicken skin”. We would crack up because instantly we’d think of Chad, his man parts and his disgustingly funny tune.

An integral part of Chad’s dirty song concerts is the costumes. He never fails to disappear into his bedroom and return a few minutes later wearing some ridiculously mismatched ensemble. Sunday night he became “The Drugstore Caballero”. This particular costume consisted of a black and white blanket-type poncho from Mexico that he lovingly referred to as his Drug Rug, a curly black wig, a white bandana a la Bret Michaels on “Rock of Love” and a pair of motorcycle racing goggles. It was quite the identity crisis. He committed to the look and amused us with a new song called “Butt Sex Slut”. Chad is truly an original. Despite his wife’s annoyance, he never disappoints.

So I thought I’d share a pic taken with Matt’s camera phone of The Drugstore Caballero. Maybe you had to be there to really get it. I don’t know, but I thought it was damn funny.
